Founded in 1980, Giant Steps School is a private school recognized and subsidized in the public interest.
Our school welcomes students aged 4 to 21 years old with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) into our preschool (4 & 5 years old), primary and secondary school programs. Students follow ministry curriculum according to their specific needs. Our approach is highly individualized, intensive, interdisciplinary and holistic. Educational and therapeutic services are offered in French and in English.
In our classes, we differentiate instruction and instructional materials to ensure academic achievement, leverage educational technology, promote self-determination and autonomy, are strength-based, and provide options to promote engagement. Our students also benefit from inclusion services that can include attending a community school with the support of an educator, pre-work and work placements, or other opportunities for social inclusion.
Giant Steps is a leader and hub for services supporting the education and success of people with ASDs, provides community support services through its Resource and Training Centre, and actively works to advance applied research in the field of autism.
